I am a writer of poems, essays, memoir, and most recently, fiction. I have lived in Virginia all my life and was a high school English and creative writing teacher in Arlington for twenty-two years.
My memoir, His Other Life: Searching For My Father, His First Wife, and Tennessee Williams, won the 2016 University of New Orleans Publishing Lab Prize and was published in the fall of 2017.
What The Neighbors Know, was published in February, 2014 by FutureCycle Press and History of the Body, was published by David Robert Books in September, 2012.
My poems have appeared on Poetry Daily, as well as in BEST NEW POETS 2010, The Georgia Review, The Massachusetts Review, The Threepenny Review, The Cincinnati Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, and numerous other journals.
My essays have appeared in The Washington Post, Reader’s Digest, Shenandoah, Cumberland River Review, Sweet, Forge Literary Magazine and elsewhere.
